Analysis of Target Audience Responses; One

Question One:

The answers mainly consist of tension, gore and suspense. This is harder to perform in a short film due to there being less time to create suspension. Also, we are not professionals therefore we do not have the required special effects or equipment to make the film gory. We can use some fake blood however.

Question Two:

The teenagers are more inclined and more interested to watch short films. Despite this however, they rarely watch them and generally prefer longer films. The adults explain this that short films do not establishing an interesting story due to such restricted time. They can not relate or emotionally attach themselves to the characters.

Question Three:

Escape is the most popular choice because the viewers can escape from their everyday lives and enter into the characters. They may be able to relate themselves to them in certain situations. Discovery is explained by the teenagers where they are generally more likely to try different things. They like to see a variation of different plot lines especially if they are not like the norm.

Question Four:

There is a variation of answers for this question. Three people are interested in the synopsis. Two of them have ideas of what we could do but it is not possible as we want to subvert the genre by having the taxi driver being female and less intimidating. Also, in the answer from the teenage male, he suggests there should be some horrific scenes after Hannah's death which is not possible as it is a short film (have a short time limit) and if we delete more scenes previously, we will not realise how vulnerable Hannah is.

Question Five:

Three of the target audience would watch it mainly out of curiosity. For instance is there a slight evidence of suspense and any scary element entwined into the scenes. Also, thrillers are popular and one of the most likely to be viewed. The other participant in our interview is more interested in plenty of flood and gore.

Question Six:

All answers consider that you would be able to tell that it is a thriller especially as it leads to the protagonists murder and has elements of strange things occurring. However, the synopsis does not contain any level of suspense and fear which could make the genre less obvious.

Question Seven:

The audience generally explained that they think the only way it could be improved is to include some confusion (mind tricks) or add some elements of fear into the scenes. As already explained above however, this is hard to do in a short film.
